We had an enjoyable stay with both travellers and locals.
It had a fab location - near Cross Kirk. By the way, a garden and a river were near the place.

No complaint, the hotel met standards. Everything was perfect, the parking was on street, the room was airy. The location was magnificent, within walking distance of Hay Lodge Park. There was a garden and a river near the place. The restaurant here was excellent with good breakfast and dinner, we both ordered delicious dishes. The staff was amicable and accommodating and we enjoyed the main bar.

The welcome and service from all staff was outstanding. They contribute to a warm, friendly, relaxing atmosphere within the hotel throughout the day. Areas of the hotel are currently being refurbished and if the standard of the rooms are the same as room 49, this hotel should easily reach 4 star status. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast and most of the food is sourced locally and is well presented, plentiful with a wide variety to choose from. We will have no hesitation in returning and recommending. Well Done to all at the Tontine.
There could be restricted parking in the rear car park on a busy weekend and it is advisable to take your luggage in through the main front entrance rather than via the rear car park which involves a few flights of stairs.

Missing from the list above are architecture and atmosphere, both of which are plus points for the Tontine. It is an old hotel in a small town, not a city, so all the main features of the settlement are just on the doorstep, yet it has views of hills from the elegant Georgian dining room. It was a real treat to have breakfast in this spacious room. The food was excellent - fresh, tasty, well presented. The staff were all extremely polite and helpful. The bed was comfy and ample and as well as the wherewithal for tea making there was real coffee! The window opened properly.
They'd run out of real ale, but that was a small inconvenience! If you care about atmosphere, request a room in the old part of the hotel.

I loved this old place! Super quirky and cool, seriously! The staff are amazin, especially laura at the front desk, she's like the friendliest person ever. The breakfast was really good, lots of options to choose from. My room was cozy and clean, had a comfy bed too.
but the shower could use a lil upgrade, and it was kinda hot in the room.

The rooms are very clean a bit too warm though. The staff were fantastic very helpful and informative about the surrounding area. If they didn't know they went out there way to find out. Food was lovely
Not much really just to warm for me in the room

The real concern of staff and management to provide an excellent experience without glitz or glamour was refreshing. My experiences recently have included various Thistle locations , Premier Inn , Travelodge and Hilton Inn .
Didn't like the Parking.

it was reasonably priced, comfortable, clean, if a little old fashioned in some areas. The hotel is in 2 halfs, original and 60s extension which is being refurbished. The management look to be up dating this newer area which needs it . The hotel has a local venue feel to it and is central in the town with lots of locals taking tea and cakes along with visitors. Nice atmosphere.
My only complaint would be the distance from the car park to the room with luggage, it is a marathon and up about 6 flights of stairs. It is much easier to off load lluggage at the front entrance before parking in the car park below.

Massive comfy bed, great shower in the Standard Double Room. The view out the window from the attic was fine, with a unique perspective of the surroundings. The outdoor seating area provided a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy some time away from the hustle, with a nice atmosphere supporting the experience.
Noise from neighbors above was hard to ignore at times, especially in the evenings. Without a fridge or mini-bar, staying hydrated overnight became an uphill battle, so plan to bring your own drinks if thirsty. The room felt quite hot , which may not bother everyone, but it did was nice, especially under those old roof angles.

The staff were excellent in all areas of the hotel. The B&B deal was good value and the breakfast was the best we enjoyed during a week of travelling around Scotland. The smoked haddock and poached egg was terrific.

A good value hotel, provided an above average experience - apart from the things mentioned below
Shower totally inadequate, impossible to set the temperature and dribbled down the wall Charges for wi-fi are ridiculous and will put off business travellers like me

The location and the dinning.
The steep stairs, as my mother found them difficult at 90 years of age.

The location is perfect, right in the center, with everything you need nearby. Our family room was spacious and beautifully decorated, and the staff were cute. Breakfast was a highlight with its locally produced options and great presentation!
